Adam Nowek is an urban researcher, photographer, and editor based in Brussels.
Originally from Vancouver, Adam is a founding member and the current Managing Editor of Amsterdam-based urbanism blog The Proto City, as well as an Editorial Assistant at ReliefWeb, a UN-operated source of news and reportage on humanitarian crises. Adam is also a photographer, focussing specifically on cities, their buildings, and the events that occur within them.
Adam holds a Master of Science from the University of Amsterdam, where he completed a programme in Urban Studies. His thesis research focussed on the aesthetics of high-rise residential architecture in China's Pearl River Delta and Canada's Lower Mainland. Adam also holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Political Science with an Extended Minor in English Literature from Simon Fraser University. His thesis examined the public role in internalising surveillance methods at Canadian airports and in the fallout of the 2011 riots in Vancouver.
